What you need to know: Instagram profile updates

Noticed a change to the Instagram grid? Here's everything you need to know about the latest updates to your profile.

RECTANGULAR GRID LAUNCHED ON INSTAGRAM PROFILES

  • Instagram have recently changed the format of grid posts, with a switch from a square format to a rectangular one.

  • This is the same format set-up as TikTok - likely in an attempt to position itself as a replacement for TikTok in the US.

  • Unsurprisingly, this change has upset many users, especially those who have carefully curated their posts for a square grid.

  • Following this update Instagram will make more changes to, in their words, simplify the profile. Swipe to see what’s coming.

UPCOMING UPDATES TO PROFILES ON INSTAGRAM

  • Due to the rectangular grid, Instagram will soon make it easier to customise thumbnails.

  • Highlights will be moved to the grid and added as a tab like reels and tagged posts.

  • Soon you’ll be able to reorder your entire grid and curate it however you want.

  • There will also be an option to post directly onto your grid, so your post won’t turn up on the feed.
